While I am more than happy to help in the transferring process of moving your data from one computer to another, unfortunately I'm not able to guarantee that none of your data will be missed or that when it has been restored that it will be in exactly the same configuration as it was originally.

 

If you were to send in your computer to Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer, Asus, Gateway, etc., you would discover that each of them will tell you right up front that they do not guarantee your computer will be returned with any or all of your data intact.  They require you to acknowledge that they've told you they won't guarantee this because they know, as do all technicians, that it is just too easy for data to get missed, corrupted, or not configured the way it was originally.

 

Because I know how important it is to you to save your data, and because I'm aware of how challenging it can be to back up data, especially from email programs, Quickbooks, Quicken, Turbo Tax, etc., I offer to do my very best to remember what you wanted backed up, and the configuration you had it in, but I simply cannot guarantee to you that I will be successful.

 

If you want the highest degree of certainty you would be best advised to research on how to back up your data on to some form of medium (CD, DVD, Flash Drive, External Hard Drive, etc.) as well as how to save all your configuration files, and the process of re-introducing that data back into a computer where I have had to rebuild your operating system or remove a virus in a manner that may change some system setup files.

 

I know all the preceding can easily sound like just an elaborate excuse for ineptitude, but because I've been in scores of homes and businesses where I've been treated to horror stories of previous technicians losing all their client's pictures, emails, private data, etc., and because I myself have made mistakes at times, I'm only being honest and straightforward with you to tell you of the dangers and to encourage you to make every precaution against the loss of your valuable data.

 

I'm not indicating here that I am unwilling to assist you in this process, but I need you to know the potential risks involved.   No where is this more evident than in the reintroduction of transferred email program data, including email messages and contacts.  The nearly infinite variety of preferred configurations, and the many different email programs (Outlook Express, Outlook 97 or 2000 or 2002 or 2003 or 2007, Thunderbird, etc.) create an amazingly complex set of options and preferences, and because of these many options it is just too difficult to guarantee flawless integration and look upon return.
